Menteri Besar Perak (tanah air kelahiran saya yang begitu indah sekali) berkata dia tak mahu jual air sungai mentah (raw water) dari Sungai Perak kepada negeri Pulau Pinang. Dia kata Perak sendiri perlukan air itu. Jadi tak ada air lebih untuk dijual ke Pulau Pinang. Ini berita dia:
Ini adalah satu lagi kenyataan yang paling dungu dan childish kebudak-budakkan oleh seorang Menteri Besar, serupa dengan kenyataan bodoh MB Kedah yang kata dia mahu sekat Sungai Muda daripada mengalir masuk sempadan negeri Pulau Pinang.
Pemikiran sempit dan childish seperti ini tidak lain tidak bukan hanyalah jealous terhadap kerajaan negeri Pulau Pinang pimpinan DAP (maksudnya orang Cina) yang begitu sukses dan berjaya membangunkan negeri Pulau Pinang makin menghampiri kemajuan Singapura dan Hong Kong.
Perak adalah negeri yang kedua besarnya di Tanah Semenanjung tetapi dengan bilangan penduduk yang agak sedikit ia itu kurang 2.5 juta orang. Saya rasa air Sungai Pari pun sudah cukup untuk memenuhi keperluan air bagi penambahan penduduk sebanyak 500,000 orang sahaja dalam tempoh 30 tahun akan datang (ataupun penambahan 16,000 orang setiap tahun).

Perak mempunyai sumber air sungai dan tasik yang begitu banyak sekali. Perak tidak pernah mengalami kekurangan sumber air. Selain Sungai Perak, negeri Perak mempunyai banyak sungai termasuk sungai yang besar seperti Sungai Bernam, Kerian, Dinding dan Sungai Kinta. Sungai Bernam cukup besar dan dalam untuk dimudiki oleh kapal laut.
Jelas bahawa MB Perak itu tidak bercakap secara lojik atau bertanggung jawab.
Untuk berpuluh tahun Perak menduduki tangga negeri termiskin di Malaysia. Ranking GDP per capita 2020 menunjukkan Perak adalah negeri/daerah yang ke-10 miskin di Malaysia (di ikuti oleh Terengganu, Perlis, Kedah, Sabah dan yang buruk sekali Kelantan).
Purata pendapatan tahunan orang Perak (GDP per capita) adalah RM26,986 pada 2020. GDP per capita penduduk Pulau Pinang pula adalah RM54,818 bagi tahun 2020 - lebih dua kali ganda pendapatan orang Perak. Memandangkan bahawa keluasan negeri Perak mungkin 10 kali ganda saiz Pulau Pinang ini bermaksud IQ pimpinan negeri Perak adalah 10% sahaja daripada IQ pemimpin Pulau Pinang.
Memang pun daripada zaman seorang MB terdahulu, negeri Perak ketandusan pimpinan yang intelek dan matang yang mampu majukan negeri kelahiran saya yang begitu kaya dengan limpahan karunia pelbagai sumber asli dan kekayaan yang lain.
Negeri Perak mengalami defisit atau kekurangan kewangan negeri. Jadi setiap tahun kerajaan negeri Perak bergantung kepada Pusat di Putrajaya untuk duit dan peruntukan untuk urusan mentadbir negeri.
Kalaulah Perak boleh jual air mentah kepada Pulau Pinang penjualan air itu boleh menambah hasil negeri yang tidak cukup itu. Juga sumber air akan bantu Pulau Pinang majukan perniagaan, bisnes, kilang dan industri yang bakal menyumbangkan hasil cukai kepada Pusat di Putrajaya yang boleh dikongsi dengan negeri Perak dalam Belanjawan tahunan. MB Perak perlu guna otak common sense.
MB Perak juga harus faham bahawa oleh kerana Perak adalah negeri yang ke-10 termiskin dalam Malaysia dan tiada banyak peluang pekerjaan atau peluang hidup yang lain di negeri itu, maka setiap tahun negeri Perak menyumbangkan bilangan terbesar (lebih 28%) daripada "pendatang" yang berhijrah ke Pulau Pinang untuk mencari peluang hidup. Sila lihat carta berikut (tahun 2016) :
Kalaulah MB negeri Perak itu boleh bangunkan negeri Perak dengan baik, untuk terlepas daripada mendudukki tangga negeri termiskin mungkin orang Perak tidak payah berhijrah ke Pulau Pinang. Dan Pulau Pinang pun tidak akan perlukan air Sungai Perak untuk tujuan mandi-manda anak negeri lain.
So brader Menteri Besar, kita kena fikir dengan guna kepala nombor 1. Bukan kepala nombor 2.

It is not that non-Malays fear Malay parties. They are, however, concerned about Malay parties led by leaders like former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Why should non-Malays in general and the Chinese in particular fear Malay parties like the virtually non-existent Pejuang?
Having lost election deposits of almost all its candidates in the recent Johor state elections, Mahathir-led Pejuang is in total disarray and cannot be counted upon by non-Malays.
The party is fast fading into oblivion and in a few years, Malaysians might not even remember that the mosquito party existed.
Mahathir’s prognosis of politics is always one-sided — how Malays have been fair to non-Malays in the past, whereas non-Malays have not been appreciative of Malays; and concessions not granted to the Chinese by the British colonial power were granted by Malay governments in the post-independence period.
Such a narrow or myopic argument pays little heed to the role of the non-Malay communities in the development of the country over the decades.
It is not so much about the generosity of Malay governments, but the recognition that Chinese and Indians are citizens who have made immense contributions to the country.
The first prime minister of the country, Tunku Abdul Rahman, was liked by non-Malays for being a fair and level-headed person.
Unfortunately, this cannot be said about other prime ministers who came to power based on a definite Malay racial agenda. This is certainly not the case with Mahathir, who came to power to seek vengeance.
The good and amicable relations between the different ethnic communities were impaired permanently when Mahathir became the prime minister.
His administration actively and aggressively promoted the Malay agenda enshrined in the New Economic Policy, or infamously termed the Never-Ending Policy.
During his 22 years in office, Mahathir did more damage to the country than other prime ministers.
Yes, he was fair to the Chinese, but only to his super-rich cronies. He was generous to the Malays, too, not all of them, but those who had powerful connections to Umno.
The Malaysian Indian community suffered most under his administration.
They have not forgotten how his administration marginalised them to the extent that they have become economically and politically disabled.
What is the point of talking about Malay governments being fair to non-Malays when the opposite is true?
Mahathir deliberately and viciously undermined the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to the extent that it collapsed after a brief stint in power.
Was he fair to non-Malay representatives in PH? Was he fair to non-Malays when they were mercilessly described as “pendatang” at Malay conferences?
Mahathir should be the last person in the country to talk about the welfare and well-being of non-Malays in the country.
Perhaps he should be talking about how he systematically undermined them politically, economically and psychologically.
It is really sad that Pejuang members are being misled by Mahathir, the prime architect of Malaysia’s failure as a multiracial country.
I think Malaysians have had enough of him to put up with his nonsense.
