How Many Bosses Will Do Like This Man...?

GIC chief takes MRT to work, shuns the corporate high life
Spore's GIC chief takes MRT to work! Despite hefty pay, Lim Siong Guan shuns the corporate high life
He may be the group president of Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC, but Mr Lim Siong Guan rides the MRT to work. He alights at Raffles Place, then walks about 20 minutes to GIC's office in Robinson Road for the exercise.
If he needs a postage stamp or has any errand of a personal nature, he queues for it himself instead of bothering his secretary.
His yearly tour of GIC overseas offices since 2007 - four days around the world: Singapore, San Francisco, New York, London, Singapore; and another four days around Asia: Singapore, Mumbai, Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore - is the stuff of corporate legend.
He does not book a single hotel room, sleeps on the plane, refuses a corporate limousine and insists on public transport. He lives out of a small carry-on bag and showers in GIC office gyms. The London office keeps a spare towel for him.
It is a practice the former chairman of the Economic Development Board says he picked up from his EDB days of city-hopping as "check-in luggage increases very significantly the chances of missing connecting flights".
By all accounts, Mr Lim is an iconoclast. The former head of the Singapore civil service, who served as permanent secretary in the ministries of Defence, Education and Finance, and in the Prime Minister's Office, is also a hard act to follow.
He sticks out in the financial sector because of his ascetic values, thrift and humility. He owns a Volvo S60, easily the smallest car among his colleagues.
While he won't spend on hotel rooms, he's prepared to spend a lot to effect organisational change. Everywhere he goes, he ignites a mini revolution, cutting red tape, operating close to the boundaries and bucking conventions.
His pet phrase is: "Are we ready for the future?" His pet name is Yoda, for his wisdom, long-range thinking and fearlessness in challenging his staff to think, even ahead of their ministers.
He is also known as one of the toughest - because of his formidable intellect and unbending principle - yet nicest bosses to work for in the civil service. His top question to staff is always: "How can I help you do your job better?"
He minimises it all, ascribing it to his yearning for "simplicity" and to "experience what ordinary people have to experience".

Putrajaya Punca Melayu Rendah Diri - Tun Musa

– 31 Ogos, 2014.

Marina - We All Answer to Allah

Social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir has spoken out against the show of support by many Malaysians only for the Palestinian people, while ignoring acts of oppression in other parts of the world.
Explaining that Malaysians must be concerned about violence and oppression in the world regardless of religion, race or country, Marina said although what was happening in Gaza now was most saddening, the oppression occurring in other countries should also not be forgotten because humans were the creation of God and all were equally important.
She urged Malaysians to be concerned about the oppression taking place in Palestine, Syria, Sri Lanka and elsewhere based on fundamental rights and humanity and not based on religion or race.
"I have always supported those who are oppressed, regardless of race and based on human rights. Most world communities, regardless whether they are Muslims, Christians or Jews are supporting Palestine.
"But in Malaysia, we like to say this is only for the Muslims, or that for the non-Muslims... This is actually wrong and should not happen,".
Marina also hoped that Malaysians who wished to comment on any particular issue on social media, such as Facebook or Twitter, would make an effort to understand the issue thoroughly before giving their comments and views, so as to avoid offending others.

Semua Yang Saya Buat Salah, Semua Yang Awak Buat Betul

Saya jumpa rakyat, awak cakap saya langgar peraturan
Awak jumpa rakyat, tak pulak awak cakap awak langgar peraturan

Saya tak buat benda-benda keji, awak tuduh bertalu-lalu cakap saya lakukan benda-benda itu
Awak terbukti melakukan benda-benda keji, tak pulak saya tuduh awak macam itu

Saya pakai jersi Selangor, awak cakap saya bukan orang Selangor, tak layak pakai
Awak pakai jersi Manchester United, tak pulak awak cakap awak bukan orang Manchester

Bila Manchester United kalah awak cakap saya yang menyebabkan kalah
Manchester menang tak pulak awak cakap saya yang menyebabkannya menang

Orang saya letak jawatan, awak cakap saya membazir wang rakyat
Orang awak letak jawatan, tak pulak awak cakap membazir wang rakyat

Tapi saya berjuang tetap berjuang

Suara Hati Cikgu

Dulu Ceritanya

Dulu,
mak ayah hormat cikgu
serah anak dengan suci kalbu
pada guru diletak harapan padu
ajarkan anak tulis baca jadi manusia berilmu

Dulu,
anak-anak sanjung cikgu
dari jauh dah tersipu malu
menyisih bila lihat kelibat guru
bila berselisih mohon tumpang lalu.

Dulu
ibu bapa sangat membantu
bila suka sekolah berduyung menyerbu
meriah acara ringan beban guru
sama-sama pasti anak maju.

Dulu
cikgu kerja boleh kata separuh hari
kini dari pagi sampai dinihari
semua sistem guna ICT
maklumat nak ada di hujung jari.

Dulu
cikgu dibekalkan rotan
anak-anak gerun nak melawan
kini usahkan rotan
jeling pun jadi kesalahan.

Dulu
cikgu ramai yang garang
pastikan murid jadi orang
kini semuanya hanya dikenang
salah cakap boleh diserang.

Dulu situasi memihak cikgu
kini banyak hal disalahkan guru
murid tak datang salah cikgu
murid meragam berpunca guru
itulah hakikat yang menyembilu.

Duhai sahabatku
bertabahlah hadapi semua itu
perbanyakkan doa pada Yang Satu
mudahan dipermudah menyampai ilmu
jagailah nama keramat CIKGU.

CNM, 17/1/14, Bdr Hilir.

Ceritanya...

Semalam,
Ada mak bapak yg datang meradang,
Menghentak meja,bersuara lantang,
Meluah rasa menjeling pandang,
Kecik hati tak diundang,
Marah benar bila dibuang,
Mcm amuk pemain bola dibuang padang..

Ceritanya..
Semalam,
Maruah cikgu diejek ejek,
Dikata xlayak jadi pendidik,
Ijazah yg ada sekadar dikelek,
Masa mengajar dipendek pendek,
Pengalaman yg ada disukat cetek..
Telinga cikgu mendengar jelek..

Ceritanya,
Hari ini,
Ada murid yg datang lewat,
Sedangkan rumah duduknya dekat,
Cikgu pun tnya kenapa liat,
Hari hari lmbat, ke mana solat?
Muka murid tersenyum kelat,
Otak murid berfikir ligat,
Nak gentar apa, cikgu xblh nk sebat,
Paling tak tulis nama dlm buku lewat..

Ceritanya,
Hari ini,
Ada cikgu mengajar di depan kelas,
Ada murid di belakang bersembang bebas,
Ada kerja utk 1 kelas,
Tapi yang siap xsmpai sebelas,
Marah cikgu berbekas bekas,
Niat di hati mengajar ikhlas,
Yg rajin tiga belas,
Yg lain malas!

Ceritanya,
Nati,
Tatkala result  keluar,
1 sekolah bdebar-debar,
Mak bapak xsabar-sabar,
Mesti result anak aku bikin gempar...
Silap silap masuk surat khabar..

Ceritanya,
Bila result mula diumumkan,
Anak dapat cukup cukup makan,
Anak nangis mintak ehsan,
Bukan apa takut balik dirotan,
Anak dipujuk,cikgu disalahkan,
Konon cikgu xberkelayakan,
Ilmu yg ada xckup padan..
Mak bapak melepas baran,
Anak aku bukan sebarangan,
Lahir dari keturunan tuan-tuan,
Patut dapt keputusan no one..

Ceritanya..
Hari ini,
Hati cikgu mendidih-didih,
Mak bapak xtau berterima kasih,
Hati cikgu mana xsedih,
Tp cikgu hatinya jernih,
Marah pergi sejuk diraih,
Biar mak bapak makinya berbuih,
Nawaitu cikgu bersifat bersih..
Luhur hatinya tetap ditagih,
Hari ini,aku berterima kasih..
Pada guru yg berperit jerih,
Yg xpernah letih,
Bukan wang ringgit yang cikgu ketagih,
Cukupla skadar terima kasih..

Who R Leading Us?

Were we being led
by people who were
ignorant,
unschooled
and
yet proud to be so?
